Kids' care specialist

Colbie Thompson

Job Title: Kids Care Specialist

Family: Ben, Henley & Dylan

Hometown: San Clemente

I became a Christian... in 2010 as a Senior in high school at FCA’s Night of Champions.

I started going to CrossPoint... right after I got married in 2014.

Describe your job: I manage and coordinate volunteers, curriculum, and fun for our preschool ministry. I assist Sandra in all the Children's Ministry, and can run a pretty fun VBS program and Carnival. Sometimes I spend my days emailing, other times I spend my days decorating a stage or running children's services for preschoolers. Every day is different, and no day is ever dull.

What is a random task that you do that not many people know about? Most weeks there is at least one craft prep thing that I have to do that requires me to cut at least 50 identical items out for a Sunday.

What do you want people to know about the church staff? Being on staff at CrossPoint is like having a huge extended family that loves you, encourages you, and prays for you daily!

In what ways have you seen God move through your ministry? Recently, I had someone tell me that their 3 year old shared the Gospel with them. That's when I stop and think, "Woah God, I guess what I am doing here is so much bigger than me." It's always cool to hear stories like that, because I know that my curriculum plans, and crafts, and silly activities are really reaching those sweet little hearts.

Chick-fil-A or Raising Cane's? CFA! Duh.

Mountains or Beach? Beach

Early bird or night owl? Honestly neither. Although having a toddler forces me to be an early bird.

Coffee or tea? Coffee. Lots of it.

Starbucks or Portola? Depends. If I want a quick drink on the go like iced tea or cold brew, obviously Starbucks. If I'm going for the full coffee shop experience probably Portola, because they make a mean latte.

Casual or dressy? Causal - I wear Rainbow sandals everyday.

You have a free Saturday. What do you do? I think I would probably start my morning in a coffee shop, or at breakfast with a giant stack of pancakes. Then a fun afternoon at the farmers market or flea market would be ideal. Then, I would end with a family dinner of course. Probably pasta, because carbs. Throw in some kitchen dancing with my toddler, because her shimmy is adorable. An evening walk in the Harbor or at Bolsa Chica would be icing on the cake.

What’s the longest you would wait in the In n Out drive through? Probably half an hour. Maybe less. Depends on how hungry I am. Also depends if there are children in the car. If they're asleep who cares, if they're hangry I'm finding somewhere else, real quick.

One place I’ve always wanted to visit is… Europe. Specifically, Italy. I would gladly eat my way through Italy.

What's your go-to coffee order? I love iced Americanos with a splash of cream and a little bit of vanilla.

What's your favorite spot in Huntington Beach? My house. It's pretty cozy and is full of a bunch of people I really like.

What’s the weirdest thing about you? I have all 4 wisdom teeth. I can't get them removed because they sit on my facial nerve, and the dentist fears it could leave my face paralyzed.
