Job Title: Youth Pastor
Family: son of Kevin and Karen Burkholder, older brother to 2 sisters Kylie and Hannah
Hometown: Huntington Beach, CA
I became a Christian… just before I entered high school. I grew up in church all my life, but really didn’t understand what it meant to commit my life to Jesus until 8th grade. I came to realize that believing in Jesus is not a one-time decision, but a lifelong commitment.
I started going to CrossPoint… since the earliest I can remember. I grew up going to CrossPoint, and consider CrossPoint home.
Describe your job: I have the blessing of leading the student ministries at CrossPoint where I get to help junior high and high school students know Jesus personally and help them along the way in what means to follow Jesus for the rest of their lives. And so that mission manifests itself in a variety of different ways, one being that I coordinate events as we, CrossPoint Student Ministries, believe that fun is the universal love language to engage and connect with students. Another is teaching particularly for the high school ministry on a weekly basis, as understanding God’s Word is critical to following Him and being challenged in our faith. I also oversee an awesome volunteer leadership team that’s committed to pouring into the next generation. Side note: I also help in overseeing the campus facilities.
What is a random task that you do that not many people know about? I’m in charge of maintaining and washing the church van.
What do you want people to know about the church staff? The church staff is an awesome group of people dedicated to following Jesus and helping others do the same, and I’m blessed to work with each and every person that makes up our staff. Each person truly embodies what it means to be a disciple.
In what ways have you seen God move through your ministry? Through the 2 years I’ve been here, I’ve seen God move in the lives of students, as some have committed their lives to Jesus for the first time. I’ve had the privilege of baptizing many students where students have wanted to publicly profess their faith because of what God’s done in their lives. I’ve seen students getting plugged-in and serve at CrossPoint. I’ve had one on one conversations where students open up about their struggles, seeking out help and answers. And I see students living differently than the rest of the world around them as God is actively working in their lives as they take strides in their faith.
