Job Title: Associate Pastor

Family: Kristen (wife of almost 10 years), Marcus (6), Gavin (4), and Lydia (2).

Hometown: Born and raised in the San Fernando Valley, but lovin’ the OC!

I became a Christian… I heard the gospel for the first time when my best friend invited me to his youth group.  While I professed to believe, the reality is that my heart was far from belief.  When God, in his grace, gripped my heart and showed me my sins during grad school, that was the point when I turned to Christ and became a follower of Jesus.

I started going to CrossPoint… before the church was called CrossPoint.  It was at this church where I was baptized, trained to do ministry, and eventually left to pursue a seminary education.  After pastoring at several churches, God has brought me back to CrossPoint, and I must say, it is good to be back.

Describe your job: I am the Associate Pastor of Congregational Care.  I help support the pastoral staff in teaching, preaching, counseling, and anything else they would like me to do.

What do you want people to know about the church staff? Everybody on staff has an extremely good time with each other.  We are not just co-workers; we actually like each other and are friends.

In what ways have you seen God move through your ministry? God continues to amaze me with how he grows people in their faith through the good times and bad.  Through it all I can see God’s faithfulness and loving guidance over people’s lives.

THIS OR THAT?

Chick-Fil-A or Raising Cane's? Raising Cane’s all the way.  Their sauce beats out Chick-Fil-A sauce any day.  And the toast!  Who doesn’t like their toast?

Mountains or beach? Neither.  My perfect setup would be to look at a picture of the mountains or beach in the comfort of my own home ☺.  But if I had to choose, I would pick mountains.  For some reason, the beach just sucks the life out of me every time I go.

Early bird or night owl? Complete night owl.  If it wasn’t for coffee, I would avoid the morning like it’s the black plague.

Coffee or Tea? Coffee is what makes the world go round.  There is never really a reason to say no to drinking a good cup of coffee.

Starbucks or Portola? Portola all the way!  But it’s not like I won’t drink Starbucks.  It’s just simply the last choice.

Casual or dressy? Keep it casual.  If it was up to me, casual would be the new dressy.

Randoms

You have a free Saturday. What do you do? I would play video games with my oldest son (or whatever game he was into at the time), take my second son to the park or some outdoor activity, take my daughter shopping, and take my wife to a nice quiet dinner with just the two of us.

What’s the longest you would wait in the In n Out drive through? I think I have once waited 45 minutes for In n Out.  And you know what?  #worth!

The best movie is… Star Trek (all three movies).  I was never a Star Trek fan until this new trilogy came out.  I have not seen the movie enough yet where I can quote most of it, but I am sure I’ll get there one day.

What’s your go-to coffee order?  Vanilla Latte.  Unfortunately, I am no longer able to drink straight black coffee.  It is something I miss dearly, but the vanilla latte has been a great substitute and has served me well.

A book you would recommend to everyone? “The Doctrine of Repentance” by Thomas Watson.  This was the first puritan book I ever read, and to this day it has impacted how I look at sin and my repentance of it.
